International Friendship Day 2023 is the day to celebrate our chosen relationship with people i.e., FRIENDSHIP. Friends are people who we choose to spend our life with. History of International Friendship day 2023
Its idea was first shared by the greeting cards industry. Joyce Hall first proposed the friendship day in Paraguay. Its celebration date has changed few times. Earlier it was celebrated on 2nd of august, then on 7th of august. His idea faded though, as people thought this was for his personal profit. But after some time this idea resurfaced. Dr. Ramon Artemio Bracho proposed the International Friendship Day idea on 20th July 1958 during a dinner with his friends.
During that, a foundation called ” The World Friendship Crusade ” was formed which promotes the ideologies of friendship and fellowship among humans. Since then, Paraguay has been celebrating friendship day on 30 July every year. The General Assembly of United Nations has also accepted 30 July to be international day of friendship.
Still some individual countries celebrate friendship day on different dates like,
- Estonia, Mexico, Finland, Dominican Republic on 14th February
- South Africa on 16th April
- Singapore in 3rd week of April
- Ukraine on 9th June
- Pakistan on 19th July
- Bolivia on 23rd July
- Peru on first Saturday of July
- Argentina, Brazil, Spain, Uruguay on 20th July
- India on first Sunday of August
